February 19, 2010

OMAHA, NEOmaha Public Schools is now one of only 15 school districts nationwide to receive the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Tools for Schools National Model of Sustained Excellence Award, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

According to the story, the award is given to school districts that maintain healthy IAQ in schools and offices, and recipients must be former IAQ award winners.

After Omaha Public Schools received an award in 2006, EPA officials said that they have gone even further with their IAQ efforts, the story stated.

The school district has measured radon levels in buildings and made changes when needed, as well as assisted other schools with their IAQ efforts and created a chemical management program that is now the standard for schools in Nebraska, the story added.
