May 18, 2011

MONROE, CT — In order to avoid the layoff of a number of custodians, Superintendent Dr. Colleen Palmer has proposed early retirement incentives, according to the Monroe Patch.

Custodians age 64 and older, and who have at least 10 years of service, are eligible for $10,000 this June and two years'' credit in their pension plan if they choose early retirement, the article stated.

According to the article, at least five custodians meet the prescribed criteria.

Palmer hopes the incentive is enough to sway those already considering retirement, the article noted.
