District looks to robotic help
In a move that could save the district thousands of dollars a year in custodial costs, GMSD is considering adding a robot to its staff, the article stated.
According to the article, the industrial-sized "Roomba" is a dust mop and floor scrubber all in one, which when it''s programmed with a building''s floor plan, can clean on its own.
The robot is a tool that school districts like Mifflin could consider as they trim the size of custodial staffs to save on operating expenses, the largest percentage of which comes from employee wages, the article noted.
"With budget cuts and staff being cut, they can essentially do more with less," said Wendy E. Hughson, marketing director for Intellibot Robotics.
