District eyes frequency reduction for custodial cost savings
February 5, 2010
HUNTLEY, IL — Consolidated School District 158 is hoping to cut costs associated with custodial services by as much as 40 percent through a contract renegotiation with its service contractor, according to the Daily Herald.
In an attempt to save considerable amounts of money, Consolidated School District 158 outsourced its custodial services to RJB Properties LLC in 2005; however, the district has not seen the significant savings they anticipated, the story stated.
Renegotiating their contract with RJB Properties, which expires in 2011, could save Consolidated School District 158 $700,000 — the precise amount of money they hoped to save when originally privatizing their custodial services, the story noted.
The bulk of the savings would center around reduced services, something many fear could inhibit the academic performance of students and negatively impact the health of students and staff alike, the story added.
According to the story, it is unlikely that any in-house custodians will be brought back to pick up the slack, as it would cost the district too much and render it unfeasible.
