Custodian sues over alleged sexual discrimination

JURUPA, CA — A custodian has filed a lawsuit against the Jurupa Unified School District alleging that she was harassed and discriminated against by co-workers who believe she is a lesbian, according to The Press-Enterprise.
The lawsuit, which was filed Thursday in Riverside County Superior Court, asks the court to order the district to provide state-mandated sexual-harassment training, the article stated.
Doreen Archambault said she worked as a substitute cafeteria worker before being hired as a permanent employee five years ago, working as a custodian at the West Riverside Elementary School.
According to the article, Archambault has had a number of unpleasant run-ins with co-workers who have asked about her sexual orientation.
The lawsuit alleges that Tamara Elzig, the district''s assistant superintendent of personnel services, cannot be "trusted" to provide a neutral environment because she has "contributed to a hostile work environment by publishing district-wide memoranda about her own personal sexual life and has, in the past, circulated cartoons of a sexual nature."
