BROWNSVILLE, TX — The Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) recently held its annual employee celebration at which a custodian at one of the district''s schools was named an employee of the year, according to the Brownsville Herald.
Erasmo Sanchez, the head custodian at J.T. Canales Elementary School, was named employee of the year in the manual trades category, the story stated.
According to the story, Sanchez was presented with a commemorative award during the celebration — this year dubbed "A Star Spangled Gala" — at the Brownsville Events Center.
Sanchez has been a custodian at J.T. Canales Elementary School for 24 years and has held the title of head custodian for the past two years, the story noted.
J.T. Canales Elementary School Principal Debbie Alford, who nominated Sanchez for the employee of the year honor, said: "He is a born leader. Where many schools have drama in the area of custodial staff, I am blessed with none. They do their jobs. They work hard. They follow Erasmo''s lead."
