October 26, 2009
MOUNT VERNON, NY — A custodian at A.B. Davis Middle School was arrested and charged with second-degree felony assault for allegedly fracturing his son''s skull, according to the Journal News.
The charges stem from an incident where Dietrick McElveen struck his son, who attends A.B. Davis Middle School, after the boy got into a fight with another student, the story stated.
After McElveen brought his injured son home, his mother noticed his wounds and took him to Lawrence Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, the story noted.
Mount Vernon Police Commissioner David Chong said: "Apparently, the child was involved in some sort of altercation at the school, and the father was notified and engaged the child. We believe the father assaulted the child at the school."
McElveen, who has seven prior arrests and one misdemeanor conviction, was arraigned and sent to Westchester County Jail on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond; his trail is set for November 5, the story added.
