County will bid for disaster cleanup contract

July 21, 2011

SAVANNAH, GA — Bryan County emergency services department can begin to solicit for bids for a pre-disaster debris contract, according to the Savannah Morning News.

The contract would then be used in the event that a declaration of disaster is made by either the U.S. President or the Governor of Georgia, the article stated.

"If there''s a hurricane or a huge tornado, then we''d activate this contract," said Jim Anderson, Bryan’s emergency services director.

"We''ll pay the company awarded the contract and then the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) would reimburse us," Anderson added.

According to the article, even though FEMA would not completely reimburse the county, they would receive more money with the contract in place than without it.
