Company fined for improper asbestos removal
CICERO, IL — AMD Industries is being fined more than $1.2 million for the improper removal of asbestos, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The U.S. Occupational Heath and Safety Administration (OSHA) said the company failed to protect its workers when it required five to remove asbestos without proper training or protection, the article stated.
According to the article, a 2002 safety audit revealed the presence of asbestos in the facility.
Rather than hire experts, AMD began removing asbestos in 2010 using its own workers until OSHA regulators found out, the article noted.
