College approves decision to outsource
February 1, 2011
ALBERTA, ON — Keyano College will now outsource its custodial services, putting an end to an issue that has been ongoing for a year and a half, according to Fort McMurry Today.
The college''s board of governors accepted administration''s recommendation to outsource due to current ill-equipped cleaning operations, the article noted.
President Jim Foote said that the area of custodial services and cleaning has become more complex at the college over the years, and managing its operations has become a challenge.
"The in-house staff simply doesn''t have the resources and expertise, particularly in scenarios relating to large-scale environmental problems," Foote stated.
According to the article, the board, in talks with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, has been debating whether the college continue investing in its in-house staff or have a professional cleaning contractor come in.
Administration has said that if the college considered the first option, it would mean increasing in-house resources, but this would be expensive and difficult to supervise, the article added.
