While profits fell by 6.5 percent, sales rose 3 percent to $1.22 billion in the October to December period, the story stated.
Donald Knauss, Clorox''s chairman and chief executive, said: "We are not recession proof, but we are recession resistant. Most of our categories have not been impacted by the economic downturn."
The company expects its gross margins to widen in 2009 due to cost-cutting measures and lower prices for raw materials, the story added.
