City officials trying not to let the bedbugs bite

July 22, 2010

DES MOINES — An expensive bedbug remediation effort is underway at the Des Moines Armory after the creepy critters were discovered there several weeks ago, according to KRNT-AM.

Custodians came across a plastic bag full of the bedbugs and suspect that they were planted in the building intentionally by an individual seeking revenge against the City of Des Moines, the story stated.

According to the story, the Des Moines Armory houses several city departments, including Human Rights, Information Technology and Community Development.

Though the building has been fumigated three times at a cost of $1,200 since the incident occurred, the bedbugs are still present, the story noted.

The next option to kill the bedbugs is to super-heat the building to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, a plan expected to come to fruition this weekend that carries a price tag of $5,000, the story added.
