City looks to bedbug specialist
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY — The Saratoga Springs Housing Authority has hired an insect specialist to deal with an ongoing bedbug problem at the Stonequist Apartments, according to the Times Union.
Ed Spychalski, the housing authority director, said the entomologist would work to train housing authority employees the correct way to treat apartments that are affected by the bedbug infestation, the article stated.
According to the article, Spychalski did not detail what the authority is currently doing to rid the apartments of the problem, but said it will never go away if residents continue to bring used furniture into the complex.
Several city officials, including Mayor Scott Johnson, have known about the complex''s bedbug issues but stated the city did not act due to territorial concerns with the federal housing authority, the article noted.
