Chipotle Mexican Grill launches solar initiative

DENVER — Chipotle Mexican Grill will soon become the largest producer of solar power in the history of the restaurant industry, according to a press release.
Standard Renewable Energy will install solar panels at 75 Chipotle restaurants over the next 12 months, the release stated.
According to the release, solar panels have been installed at 13 restaurants at various locations throughout the United States so far.
The solar initiative will reduce Chipotle''s energy consumption by 500 kilowatt hours and will reduce global CO2 emissions by about 41 million pounds per year, the release noted.
Chipotle, which has several Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified restaurants, plans on reducing its operating costs and carbon footprint at all locations by using recycled drywall and low-volatile organic compound (VOC) paints and sealants in its new buildings, the release added.
