Cascades Tissue Group purchases wind energy credits
April 15, 2010
ALBANY, NY — The Cascades Tissue Group, the commercial tissue subsidiary of Cascades Inc., recently purchased 20,000 megawatt hours of wind power to offset carbon dioxide emissions at its Waterford and Mechanicville plants, according to the Albany Business Review.
The wind energy credits, which will be used to offset the emissions released to produce the North River line of paper products, represent a 182 percent increase over Cascade Tissue''s current energy credit levels, the story stated.
The North River line, which represents one-quarter of Cascades Tissue''s annual sales, is eco-friendly and produced using 100 percent recycled fiber, the story noted.
According to the story, Cascades'' plants in Waterford and Mechanicville will not directly run on wind energy; the credits will be used to supply wind energy generated and delivered somewhere on the power grid.
