Carpet stewardship bill laid to rest

March 2, 2012

SEATTLE — A carpet stewardship bill in the state of Washington will have to wait at least one more calendar year, according to Floor Daily.

The state Senate''s Ways and Means Committee failed to hold a hearing on the proposed legislation, effectively killing it earlier this week, the story stated.

The crux of the proposed legislation was to establish a more extensive program aimed at fostering more cost-effective carpet recycling at no cost to residents, carpet retailers or contractors, the story noted.

Carpet producers in the state of Washington would have paid for the program and contracted with carpet collectors and processors to run the program, the story added.
