Board votes down privatization
ALLEGAN, MI — Members of the Plainwell school board have voted against the recommendation that the district privatize their custodial services, according to the Allegan County News.
District administration recommended the move, saying they could save over $100,000 in the first year of a contract by eliminating the district''s remaining 11 in-house custodians, the article stated.
According to the article, Jody Haddix, custodian and union president, said the outcome of the vote was a relief.
"It was a huge weight off our shoulders after four months," said Haddix.
"It''s a huge step in the right direction for the board, the district and the custodians," Haddix added.
