Benefit held for longtime custodian
CAÑON CITY, CO — Richard Atencio, Cañon City Middle School''s (CCMS) head custodian, has served the district for more than 20 years making a difference in the lives of staff and students; now it''s the community''s turn to make a difference, according to the Cañon City Daily Record.
"Atencio''s Warriors" is hosting a run/walk to benefit Atencio, who is currently battling cancer, the article stated.
According to the article, Atencio, who has been the head custodian at the middle school for the past six years, is known for making people smile with his sense of humor.
"Richard is such a blessing to each and every one of us at CCMS. He has always been there for us, solid as a rock, willing to do whatever is needed," said Karen Rogers, a CCMS co-worker and Atencio''s Warriors organizer.
"He is always willing to do anything for anybody. Even if it''s after hours or before hours, it doesn''t matter. Richard is the type of guy that''s not going to say no to people — he''s in it for the long haul," Ken Trujillo, CCMS principal added.
