Bait-and-switch operators continue to operate

April 16, 2009
FORT MYERS, FL — When Marian Dragonette saw an advertisement to have her carpets in five rooms cleaned for $34.75 by Horizon Cleaning Service, she thought it was too good of a deal to pass up, according to the News-Press.
When the two-man crew came, cleaned, and then told her the bill was $375 instead of the advertised price, she was quite confused, the story stated.
According to the story, one of the technicians said they had to "do a deep scrubbing," which is why the price was exceptionally higher.
Dragonette was able to talk the price down to $125, but was told she still needed to pay them $3 for a gas surcharge, the story noted.
Some dishonest companies advertise extremely low prices so a technician can come to your house and trick or pressure potential customers into spending more money, the story added.
