Arbitration coming to an end
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A battle between the University of Minnesota and its custodians over cleaning practices is now in the hands of an arbitrator, according to The Minnesota Daily.
The arbitration process began in February after the university decided to implement team cleaning for its custodians that the custodians argue is in violation of their contract, the article stated.
According to the article, April 9 signified the last day that either side could submit arguments to the arbitrator who, according to the union contract, would then have 30 days to make a decision.
Curt Swenson, a business agent for the union, believes they will receive a ruling soon, and the union has waived the 30-day requirement as a sign of good faith, the article noted.
"Usually, grievances in the past may affect one or two or three. This will affect all the [custodial employees], which have numbers in the hundreds," Swenson said.
