Appleton school district renews custodial contract
August 11, 2010
APPLETON, WI — The Appleton Board of Education renewed its cleaning contract with Jack''s Maintenance Service for the next five years, according to the Post Crescent.
The contract for janitorial services the first year is $3 million, the article noted.
School officials said the renewal rates are reasonable, considering how labor-intensive the work is and the salary and benefit levels the district would have to pay if the cleaning was done in-house.
A "blend" that combines employee maintenance engineers and contracted custodial services is cost-effective, the article stated.
"It costs us about half as much per square foot as it does other districts that don''t contract for services," said Don Hietpas, chief financial officer (CFO).
