Alleged threats lead to strike

HOUSTON — More than 3,000 union-affiliated Houston janitors have voted to strike due to alleged threats and other instances of misconduct by janitorial contractors for some of the city''s biggest corporations, according to the Chronicle.

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) confirmed that nearly 100 janitors have walked off the job in downtown Houston, the article stated.

According to the article, Paloma Martinez, a spokesperson for SEIU, has said that decisions will be made regarding what other buildings and complexes will be affected by the impending strike.

Martinez also indicated that there has been little progress in ongoing contract negotiations, the article noted.
