Different strain of flu now circulating
PROVIDENCE, RI — The department of health here alerted residents of an influenza strain that is different from the commonly seen strain during this season, WLNE-TV reported.
The new "H3" strain can cause severe illness, and it can have a great impact on the elderly, the article noted.
The department of health said this year's vaccine will protect people from both strains of flu, and there are plenty of vaccinations available in the area, according to the article.
This season, Rhode Island has counted two flu related deaths and nearly 300 flu related hospitalizations, but these numbers may increase with H3 circulating, the article stated.
