Hospital issues flu alert
FORT WORTH, TX — A deadly strain of the flu is quickly sweeping through North Texas already resulting in hundreds of documented cases and there more than a dozen deaths, according to CBSDFW-TV.
Cities across the area are taking strong measures to try to stop the spread of the virus, with some hospitals going as far as to ask people to leave their children at home when they visit patients, the article stated.
According to the article, since the week of Christmas, nearly 350 people have gone to the emergency department or urgent care JPS in Fort Worth, with flu symptoms; currently there are 26 people hospitalized, seven of those in the Intensive Care Unit.
"The number of positive flu tests we’ve had in the last couple of weeks are up eight times what they were in early December, so without a doubt we’re seeing a lot of flu," said Medical City Dallas Hospital’s director of emergency services, Dr. Matt Bush.
