Hotels to pay back wages
ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Following an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division, MCM Elegante and MCM Grande Hotels in Albuquerque and Texas have paid more than $75,000 in back wages, according to the ABQ Journal.
The probe found overtime, minimum wage and record-keeping violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, the article stated.
According to the article, investigators found that housekeeping staff at the MCM Elegante and MCM Grande hotels were paid a flat rate per room cleaned, without regard to the number of hours worked.
When staff worked more than 40 hours in a week, they were still paid only the flat rate, failing to earn overtime at one and one-half times the employees' regular rates of pay, which is required by the FLSA, the article noted.
