Janitor transitions to director of technology
CADILLAC, MI — Seventeen years ago, Larry Haines was hired as the janitor at the Cadillac Wexford Public Library, but he quickly became indispensable when it came to the library's public computers, according to Cadillac News.
As the library’s janitor and resident Mr. Fix-It, Haines started to spend less time mopping floors and more time helping people with computer problems, the article stated.
According to the article, Hines is now the technology director, responsible for the maintenance of 70 computers and three servers for the main library and four branch libraries.
Cathy Tacoma, Hines' boss, calls him a "visionary," the article noted.
"In every profession there are people who are excellent. And then there are those who are excellent and have vision. He’s a guy who gets a passion and runs with it. He even learned how to fly. He started here as a janitor and took computer classes and I could see he was good. He grew into the job," said Tacoma.
