District sued for discrimination
IOWA CITY, IA — An Iowa City Community School District employee is suing the district for discrimination after he was allegedly passed over for a promotion because of his race, according to the Press-Citizen.
Hung Le's lawsuit, filed in Johnson County District Court last week, alleges that he was told by the district that he was not suited for promotion because English was not his first language, the article stated.
According to the article, Le was working as a night custodian in 2010 when he applied for "two similar positions within the district that would have resulted in more desirable hours and a raise."
While Le did come to the U.S. from Vietnam in the early 1970s, he is fluent in English and his suit alleges that two white males who were less qualified were hired, the article noted.
