University outsources positions
SOUTH BEND, IN — Nine custodians will lose their jobs as Ivy Tech Community College decides to outsource the custodial work at its South Bend campus, according to the South Bend Tribune.
The board of trustees has announced that the last day for those custodians who will be affected by the move will be July 27, the article stated.
According to the article, Team MJV was awarded the contract to assume custodial services; the company already provides custodial services at Ivy Tech's Warsaw campus.
The decision to outsource could save the college around $200,000 a year, the article noted.
Executive Director of Facilities Jim Jasiewicz explained that the custodians who would be losing their jobs will be able to apply for positions with the new contractor, the article added.
