Toronto housekeepers celebrate contract settlement
TORONTO — Housekeepers at Toronto's downtown and airport Hilton hotels have ratified their latest collective agreement a grand total of seven months before the actual contract deadline, according to The Star.
The early settlement is in contrast to the 11 months of collective bargaining and numerous strikes that plagued the Delta Chelsea hotel in 2010, the article stated.
According to the article, the agreement, which was ratified with 94 percent support on June 30, encompasses almost 500 workers at the Hilton Toronto Downtown and Hilton Toronto Airport hotels.
The Hilton agreement is an "encouraging development" at a time when unions are increasingly under attack, the article noted.
