Outsourcing will save school millions
CARROLLTON, GA — Carroll County Schools will outsource all custodial positions, according to the Times-Georgian.
In a very narrow vote on Thursday, the board of education approved the proposal from Southern Management, which will save county schools more than $1 million in the 2014 fiscal budget, the article stated.
According to the article, all custodians who are currently employed by the district will have the opportunity to be hired by the contracting company, as long as they pass pre-screening and background checks.
The privatization of services will force custodians to accept a pay cut if they are rehired by Southern Management: They currently are paid roughly $11.50 an hour, but would see only $9 with the contractor, the article noted.
