CHAMPAIGN, IL — Nearly 800 building service workers and food workers have walked onto picket lines on the University of Illinois' Urbana-Champaign campus, according to the Daily Chronicle.
The workers are unhappy about wages and other issues that have popped up in a contract proposal they have received from the university, the article stated.
According to the article, it wasn't immediately clear how the strike would affect the campus, but in an e-mail, university staffs were warned of delays and disruptions of some building services.
The workers, members of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 73, plan to strike for three days, after they rejected the most recent contract offer from the university on Sunday, the article noted.
The four-year contract included a .50 cent an hour raise in the first year of the contract, with smaller raises in later years, the article added.
