Kimberly-Clark Professional has become the first major tissue manufacturer to introduce products containing non-tree fibers to the North American market, signaling the next step in its exploration of options to foster more sustainable development. The new Kleenex and Scott alternative fiber towel and tissue products will contain 20 percent non-tree fibers, including wheat straw and bamboo. These products, by meeting U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) minimums for recycled content and containing rapidly renewable fiber, can help facilities earn points toward Leadership in energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (LEED-EBOM) certification.
