BURBANK, CA — Outside Walt Disney Studios in California, janitors protested the layoffs of nearly 70 workers, according to ATVN-TV.
The janitors, members of Service Employees International Union-United Service Workers West (SEIU-USWW), have also authorized a strike if Disney fails to rehire all of the laid-off workers, the article stated.
"Walt Disney Studios is a place where movie magic is created to bring families closer together," said Gabriel Gonzalez, a janitor at Disney for the last 25 years.
"Firing all of us without helping us secure a place in the new company is wrong. We will not be silent," Gonzalez added.
According to the article, a cleaning service provider will take over the maintenance of the studio over the next week, and Disney cannot guarantee the laid-off workers will keep their jobs or retain their benefits.
