Clarke Earns 2012 Governor's Sustainability Award for Advancements in Environmental Protection
OAKBROOK, Ill. — Clarke, a global environmental products and services company, has been honored by the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) with the Governor's Sustainability Award, recognizing its commitment to environmental excellence.
The award is given to companies that demonstrate outstanding and innovative sustainability practices.
"[Clarke has] shown that it is possible to create and maintain conditions under which people and the environment can exist in productive harmony and fulfill the social and economic requirements of present and future generations," said Manohar Kulkarni, ISTC Director.
In recent years, Clarke has pioneered innovative advancements in the areas of mosquito control and aquatic weed control, with a company-wide commitment to green initiatives.
"[Clarke's] green practices serve as a model of environmental stewardship for residents, businesses and institutions throughout our state," said Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. "I applaud your prioritization of these important objectives and your accomplishments in these areas."
In 2010, Clarke was honored with the U.S. EPA Presidential Green Chemistry Award for its introduction of a new OMRI-listed larvicide, Natular, for use around organic farms and environmentally sensitive areas. This year, Clarke introduced Merus, an adulticide formulated with OMRI-listed ingredients, currently in limited introduction.
"It's incredibly gratifying to see the hard work of the Clarke team recognized in this way," said J. Lyell Clarke, president and CEO of Clarke. "By bringing new chemistries like this to mosquito control, our industry can reduce the pesticide load and reduce toxicity."
