UNC housekeepers claim harassment
RALEIGH, NC — The majority of housekeepers who clean the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Dentistry have filed a grievance alleging harassment by two managers, according to the News and Observer.
The housekeepers, who work the night shift under housekeeping manager Juanita Williams and zone leader Annette Rieves, are asking that Williams be fired and Rieves demoted to a housekeeping position, the article stated.
According to the article, the housekeepers' grievance states, "Ms. Williams' and Ms. Rieves' constant harassment and verbal abuse of housekeepers in our zone has created an environment of fear and intimidation."
Of 18 housekeepers in the division, 15 joined the grievance, while five others transferred from the dental school zone rather than deal with harassment, the article noted.
