ICAN/ATEX: How do I remove stains from marble?

Monday's Question:

One of the buildings that we clean has marble walls. These walls have a yellow stain on them.

I cannot positively identify the stain. It resembles smoke stains from tobacco smoke or residue from sulfur water, but I cannot be sure.stained marble

What do you recommend for removing these stains?

Monday's Answer:

Go to and look down the list of possible staining sources.

You may need to try several poultices to see if any are effective.

Choose a small spot and do an experiment. If that is successful, you can proceed to larger sections.
