RALEIGH, NC — Each year, North Carolina State University (NCSU) honors its housekeeping staff with a week dedicated to the hard work they put in each day, according to the Technician.
While a housekeeper's position may not necessarily inspire envy, housekeepers are, in fact, extremely critical to the daily flow of the university, the article stated.
According to the article, Kevin MacNaughton, associate vice chancellor for Facilities, said the housekeeping staff works with pride and confidence, and added that the staff is vital to all the huge academic and research enterprises that go on at the university.
"When it snows, these are the folks that come in at 4 a.m. to shovel the walks so when students awake there are safe on pathways," said MacNaughton.
"If there is a flood in a building at any time, including off-hours, they respond immediately with water removal equipment to mitigate damage to the building, saving the university substantial costs," MacNaughton added.
MacNaughton stressed that it is important to appreciate the often unnoticed housekeeping staff because they keep the campus building clean and, most importantly, sanitary, the article noted.
