SAN FRANCISCO — With the recent acquisition of the well-known Method brand, Ecover has formed the largest green cleaning product company in the world, according to a press release.
Although they will share business resources to help increase their combined $200 million in annual sales, the duo will remain separate brands, the release stated.
Both Method — founded in 2001 — and Ecover — established in 1979 — rely heavily on plant-based formulations and aesthetically pleasing packaging for product differentiation, the release noted.
Ecover Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Philip Malmberg said, "With the acquisition of Method, we are acquiring much more than just a brand. This is the start of a fantastic, long-term partnership with a company that has a track record for innovation, an unwavering commitment to green products and a professional team with a real passion for what they do. The merger of these two businesses provides us with a strategic position in the U.S. market — the largest and fastest growing market in the green cleaning category — and Method with a European partner with an unrivalled heritage, robust environmental credentials and ecological manufacturing facilities."
According to the release, the companies employ some 300 individuals in the U.S. and in Europe.
Both brands will now see increased distribution in the North American and European green cleaning and personal care markets, the release added.
