CLINTON, TN — One man who touched countless lives will be remembered by family, friends and coworkers as the heart and soul of North Clinton Elementary, according to WBIR-TV.
Rufus Hammitt was a fixture in the elementary school’s maintenance department for years, but his passion was the kids, the article stated.
"He was a very humble guy and a caring person. He always has been. He loved kids," said Nelta Cox, Hammitt’s sister.
According to the article, Hammitt died suddenly last Wednesday from complications following surgery to treat cancer.
On Tuesday, the North Clinton Elementary School held a memorial; the gym was packed, filled with those who worked with Hammitt or learned from him, all wanting to remember their friend, the article noted.
