HATTERAS, NC — As Hurricane Irene begins its approach, evacuations begin and residents and businesses prepare for potential damage, according to CBS News.
With Irene expected to make landfall Friday night or Saturday morning near the Outer Banks, residents are being told to evacuate, the article stated.
According to the article, even if Irene remains further off the coast, some places like Cape Hatteras, still have a high likelihood of being hit by tropical storm strength winds, and will likely incur damage.
Federal officials have warned Irene could cause flooding, power outages or worse all along the East Coast as far north as Maine, even if it stays offshore, the article noted.
