PITTSBURGH, PA — PNC Financial Services Group recently unveiled a nearly six-story tall green wall outside their corporate headquarters, the largest in North America, according to Eco Factory.
The massive green wall contains more than 15,000 ferns, brass buttons and other local plants that only require 15 minutes of watering per week courtesy of an internally-controlled irrigation system, the story stated.
According to the story, some of the plants, eight varieties that will change colors in the winter and bloom in the spring, are installed at street level, allowing passersby to learn more about the wall and the plants it is made of.
The green wall was created by Green Living Technologies LLC and carried a price tag of $100 to $125 per square foot, the story noted.
The drip-irrigated green wall weighs about 24 tons and estimates show that it offsets the carbon footprint of about 600 Americans, the story added.
Gary Saulson, head of corporate real estate for PNC, said: "We really view the green wall as public art."
