PHILIPSBURG, PA — Officials at Philipsburg-Osceola Area School District closed one of the schools on Thursday after more than 100 students and staff spent the day sick at home, according to WJAC-TV.
District officials told WJAC-TV that a large number of people were sick with upset stomach inside the Junior High School, the article noted.
Pennsylvania Department of Health officials are investigating, but did not recommend that the school be closed, the article stated.
POASD officials told WJAC-TV that they decided to close the Junior High on Friday for staff to clean and disinfect the building.
According to the article, authorities believe that a norovirus is to blame for the illnesses.
