ISSA elects board members
After a vote by its members, ISSA has announced that the following three positions on its board of directors have been filled:
The new board members will assume office on October 7, during the ISSA/INTERCLEAN® convention and trade show in Chicago.
Clorox hires Knauss for top job
Oakland, CA-based JanSan chemical manufacturer The Clorox Co. has hired Donald Knauss to be chairman and chief executive officer.
Knauss comes to Clorox from the Coca-Cola Co., where he had been president of Coca-Cola North America for two years.
Knauss succeeds Robert Matschulatt, who has been interim chairman and CEO since March, when former chairman and CEO Gerald Johnston suffered a heart attack.
Betco appoints marketer
JanSan manufacturer Betco Corp. of Toledo, OH, has hired Gary Martin as manager of business development.
Martin, who has 10 years of JanSan experience, will work on developing and implementing successful marketing programs for Betco customers.
Sysco names PR chief
Houston-based food and JanSan supplies distributor Sysco Corp. has hired Mark Palmer as group president of communications and collaboration.
Palmer, who previously worked as vice president of public relations at Enron, the energy trading giant that collapsed into bankruptcy in 2001, will work on improving company-wide communications among business partners, customers, suppliers, associates, shareholders and various communities.
ASHES elects two board members
Members of the American Society of Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES) have elected David Roberson and Tina Cermignano to three-year terms on the ASHES national board of directors.
Roberson is vice president of environmental services brand management at Sodexho Health Care Services in Franklin, TN, and Cermignano is an operations manager at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Waxie promotes training exec
San Diego-based JanSan distributor Waxie Sanitary Supply has promoted Cindy Neibert to the new position of vice president for education and development.
Neibert, a 19-year veteran of Waxie, had been corporate training director, and will now oversee all employee training as head of the new Education and Development Department.
IEHA to elect officers
International Executive Housekeepers Association (IEHA) members will elect two officers — president-elect and secretary/treasurer — at the organization’s meeting in Chicago on October 4.
The two candidates for president-elect are Donna Prater, Director of Housekeeping and Laundry at Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Living Community in Lebanon, OH, and Marvin Ellsworth, Director of Environmental Services at Village Shalom in Overland Park, KS.
The two candidates for secretary/ treasurer are Eric Bates, Environmental Services Manager at Bethesda Lutheran Homes in Watertown, WI, and Janet Wiggins, Director of Environmental Services at Healthsouth Riosa Hospital in San Antonio, TX.
SBA honors JanSan owner
The U.S. Small Business Administration recently honored William L. Byles Sr., owner of Byles Janitorial Services in Nashville, TN, with its 8(a) Graduate of the Year award.
The award is given annually to the outstanding graduate of the SBA’s business development program.
A veteran of the Persian Gulf War, Byles started a successful janitorial business while working full-time as a truck driver, and eventually quit driving a truck and devoted himself to his JanSan business after completing the 8(a) program.
Munters hires two
JanSan manufacturer and services provider Munters Moisture Control Services of Memphis, TN, has hired Jack C. Boyd III as business development manager.
Boyd has 32 years’ experience in the disaster restoration business, 25 of them at ServiceMaster, where he was vice president for insurance restoration.
Munters also hired David Richardson as national account manager.
Richardson will be responsible for developing national and global accounts, maintaining relationships with key customers in the disaster restoration industry, and representing Munters at industry trade shows and conferences.
UNICCO promotes Peck
UNICCO Service Co. has promoted Jonathan Peck to director of business development for the New England region.
A 16-year UNICCO veteran, Peck had previously been senior director of operations for New England, working in the Boston office.
EcoLogo program expands in USA
The Canadian EcoLogo™ program, North America’s largest environmental certification program, has launched a major campaign to expand into the United States.
The EcoLogo USA Campaign is designed to help consumers understand the benefits of environmentally certified products and to promote the companies that make them.
3M buys Nylonge
St. Paul, MN-based 3M Co. has acquired household cleaning products manufacturer Nylonge Corp.
Nylonge makes sponges, household wipes and other cleaning products at its facility in Elyria, OH.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Ecolab acquires DuChem Industries
JanSan manufacturer Ecolab Inc. of St. Paul, MN, has acquired DuChem Industries Inc. of Newman, GA.
DuChem, which manufactures and sells cleaning and sanitizing products for meat and poultry processors, has annual sales of about $10 million.
Coverall managers team with Allied Capital in buyout
Private equity firm Allied Capital Corp. has invested $56 million in a buyout of Coverall North America Inc., a commercial cleaning franchisor, in cooperation with top Coverall managers.
The Allied investment took the form of senior secured notes, subordinated debt and a majority of the common equity.
