CHURCH HILL, TN — A case of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has been confirmed by officials at Volunteer High School, according to the Kingsport Times-News.
Hawkins County Director of Schools Charlotte Britton ensures that all possible precautions have been taken at the school level, including cleaning all areas shared by students, the article stated.
According to the article, the district learned about the MRSA case on Sunday; the case was confirmed by Monday.
"The safety and security of all students is of utmost importance and, therefore, our school system is taking every precaution to ensure our schools are safe, clean and a healthy environment for student learning," Britton said.
"Coaches have talked with their players on individual cleanliness to avoid any unwelcome health issues. Routine precautions set forth by the Tennessee Department of Health have been followed," Britton added.
