Monday''s Ask the Experts question from a cleaning professional on the International Custodial Advisors Network (ICAN) "Ask the Experts" page: Is there a standard used to determine how many trash receptacles are needed per sq. ft. of building space such as hallways, large lecture halls, classrooms, common areas, etc.?
The answer:
While institutions such as yours may have developed, from experience, standards that work for them, I doubt there has ever been a concerted effort to produce one that fits all, simply because of the variables involved.
How much traffic is there and how much is discarded? How large a container are you considering? How often are you emptying them?
I suggest you walk around with discard points...
Lynn E. Krafft, ICAN/ATEX Editor
