WEST PALM BEACH, FL — The Juvenile Assessment Center has been abandoned by school police after an environmental inspector reported the mold-infested office walls could endanger their health, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The environmental review also noted dirty carpets, slimy air conditioning equipment and broken exhaust fans that needed fixing, the article stated.

According to the article, a district police officer requested the air quality inspection after he kept getting sick.

Mold was growing behind peeling wallpaper in the police officers'' offices, water leaks had damaged the drywall, dead insects lined the window sills and bird feathers jammed the air conditioning diffusers, the article noted.

"The mold growth … Is a health concern and should be addressed in a timely manner," wrote the school district''s environmental manager in a memo.
