UNION CITY, GA — A mold infestation has destroyed everything they own and forced a couple and their 18-month-old son out of their apartment, according to WSB-TV.
Discovering mold atop their linen closet a day after they moved in, Michael and Nyyoka Carter requested they be transferred to another apartment, the story stated.
Michael Carter said: "You can see the spot at the top of the sofa is growing now. I could understand the neglect of two adults but here''s an 18-month-old baby — and you just have him in the mold."
Apartment management did send a maintenance worker to the apartment to address the issue, but after the worker simply painted over the problem, the mold returned and spread, the story noted.
According to the story, the couple was eventually moved into a different apartment, but in the two weeks it took to make the move, many of their belongings became mold-infested.
In an effort to satisfy the tenants, apartment management has allowed the couple and their son to stay in the apartment they were transferred to rent-free for one month, the story added.
