SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Manpower has ruled that foreign domestic workers cannot wash exterior windows without two safety conditions being met, effective immediately, according to Channel News Aisa.
The first condition that must be met is the employer or an adult has to be physically present to supervise the maid; the second condition is that window grills must be installed and locked at all times during the cleaning process, the article stated.
According to the article, the ministry explained that many foreign domestic workers do not come from high-rise environments and are, therefore, unlikely to be aware of the risks in a high-rise setting.
The ministry plans to double the penalties from the current $5,000 fine and/or six months'' jail to $10,000 fine and/or 12 months'' jail.
