All purpose cleaner /degreaser with bio-based formula manufactured by Lighthouse for the Blind-Saint Louis is easy on the environment yet strong enough for tough cleaning tasks
St. Louis, Missouri, USA... The Lighthouse for the Blind-Saint Louis, a not-for-profit manufacturing and packaging organization with a dedicated social service mission, is pleased to announce that its Power Green all-purpose cleaner / degreaser product earned a Bio-Based, Bio-Preferred certification from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). As a result, the Lighthouse can proudly display the USDA’s Bio-Preferred program logo on all its Power Green Labels.
”We are very proud that our powerful, Power Green Bio-Preferred cleaner was created in the lab at The Lighthouse manufacturing plant in Berkeley, Missouri, and formulated, produced and packaged by our employees who are legally blind and visually impaired,” said John W. Thompson, president of the Lighthouse for the Blind-Saint Louis.
“Our potent Power Green cleaner/degreaser does the environment good thanks to its biodegradable, non-toxic and non-flammable formula with no volatile organic compounds (VOCs),” Thompson added. “We anticipate that our new all-purpose Power Green cleaner/degreaser will be popular among our customers in government, military and business sectors and among consumers,” said Thompson. “Power Green is a very effective cleaner with a refreshing scent that can tackle any tough cleaning job on walls, floors, appliances, machinery or any washable surface,” Thompson said.
Ron Buckhalt, USDA Bio-Preferred Program Manager, said, "We are pleased that Lighthouse for the Blind-Saint Louis has earned the USDA Certified Bio-Based and Bio-Preferred Product Label. Bio-based products provide opportunities to help add value to renewable commodities, and also create jobs in rural communities and generate investment income," Buckhalt said. Because of the USDA’s Bio-Preferred certification, “Consumers may feel secure in the accuracy of the Bio-Based amount and be empowered in making better-informed purchasing decisions,” Buckhalt added.
The USDA notified the Lighthouse in May 2012 that Power Green earned Bio-Based, Bio-Preferred certification because it meets or exceeds prescribed USDA standards for products composed in whole or in significant part of agricultural, forestry or marine materials. Power Green’s Bio-Based content of 62% was verified by independent labs monitored by the USDA. The USDA Bio-Preferred program was created by the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 and expanded by the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 to help increase the purchase and use of Bio-Based products.
In addition, the Lighthouse Power Green product scored as a superior environmentally-safe cleaning product in comparison tests against one of the nation’s leading brands.
“We are excited about the prospects for our concentrated Power Green product because of its superior performance and Bio-Preferred certification,” said Brian Houser, Director of Sales and Marketing at The Lighthouse. “We are now adding the Bio-Preferred logo to Power Green’s packaging. Power Green is available for purchase by anyone through the Lighthouse website at http://www.lhbindustries.com or by calling the Lighthouse at 314.423.4333.
