CINCINNATI — Kimberly-Clark Professional has announced that the "broad majority" of its tissue and towel products now boast Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification, and two of the company''s brands now carry the EcoLogo mark, according to a press release.

An FSC mark ensures that forest products come from sources that are managed with consideration for people, wildlife and the environment, the release stated.

According to the release, the EcoLogo mark is awarded to products that demonstrate significantly reduced environmental impact among five key life-cycle based criteria: Resource consumption; energy consumption; wastewater quality; aquatic toxicity; and solid waste.

Over the past year, 14 major U.S. companies have moved to distance themselves from the eco-label Sustainable Forestry Initiative, with many moving towards FSC-labeled products instead, the release noted.
